Malta Calendar of Events for February 2021

What’s happening in February 2021? Here are some of the artistic and cultural events taking place in Malta and Gozo this month.

1. ART: Dehumaneation

DATE:15 January – 28 February
VENUE:Spazju Kreattiv, Valletta

TDehumaneation is an exhibition that will combine paintings by Shaun Grech, film, an installation, narratives, and critical debate to explore these complex concepts. Curated by Prof. Raphael Vella and using Dehumaneation as an invented word, concept, and probe, the artists will bring three concepts together to address a range of instances and manifestations of this intersectional space. 2. ART: Homebody

DATE:22 January – 21 February
VENUE:MUŻA, Valletta

TMaria Borg will debut the MUŻA 2021 programme with her first solo exhibition titled ‘Homebody’. This exhibition focuses on painting objects. The paintings obsess over texture; the softness of the fabric and the heaviness of the body that inhabited them. 3. MUSIC: The Busker – In Transition (Live)

DATE:5 February
VENUE:Spazju Kreattiv, Valletta

4. ART: {v}

DATE:5 February - 21 March
VENUE:Spazju Kreattiv, Valletta

Forming part of Spazju Kreattiv’s annual Art +Feminism programme, this collective multi-media visual exhibition will be accompanied by ancillary events, such as talks and screenings which shall both foster and encourage debate and dialogue on, and surrounding the subject. 5. ART: Darkness at Noon

DATE:26 – 24 February
VENUE:The Splendid, 67 Strait Street, Valletta

Darkness at Noon will showcase the work of three Maltese artists: ceramist Paul Scerri, photographer Charles Balzan and painter Gabriel Buttigieg. The exhibition as a metaphor is the archetypal uncanny moment: frighteningly strange and defined by an occurrence that violently alters the patterns of nature. 6. THEATRE: Dido and Aeneas

DATE:23, 24, 26, 27 February
VENUE:Manoel Theatre, Valletta

This production directed by Denise Mulholland and conducted by Marco Mercoboni is an opera in a prologue and three acts, written by the English Baroque composer Henry Purcell with a libretto by Nahum Tate. More information from https://booking.teatrumanoel.com.mt/websales/movie/16373/
