Here are 10 of the most downloaded Android Apps in 2020

Mobile apps have been at the centre of innovation for a few years. Some of the most popular apps help to make life simpler for millions of individuals and businesses around the world.

Several apps are released every day on the app store - some of them fare mediocrely, and a few of them stand out from the crowd.

Here are some of the most downloaded Android apps in 2020 (in no particular order):

 

1. Zoom

This cloud platform for video, voice, content sharing, and chat helps businesses and organisations bring their teams together and runs across mobile devices, desktops, telephones and room systems.

 

2. Tik Tok

TikTok was the most downloaded app in March 2020. The Chinese video-sharing social networking service owned by ByteDance, a Beijing-based Internet technology company founded in 2012. It is used to create short music, lip-sync, dance, comedy and talent videos.

 

3. Netflix

Netflix is a streaming service that offers a wide variety of award-winning TV shows, films, documentaries, and more, on thousands of internet-connected devices, including your smartphone, for a monthly subscription. You can even download films and TV series and watch them without an internet connection.

 

4. Signal

Signal is a cross-platform encrypted messaging app developed by the Signal Foundation and Signal Messenger LLC. It is touted as the most secure messaging app you can get for your phone (even whistleblower Edward Snowden recommends it). Anything you send or receive is encrypted and the app does not store any user data.

 

5. Microsoft Teams

Microsoft Teams is a business-oriented communication and collaboration platform that combines workplace chat, video meetings, file storage and application integration. You can also use Microsoft Teams to manage your personal life - chat, make plans, share shopping lists, tasks and your location, or coordinate events with fellow club or family members.

 

6. Instagram

Instagram is a free photo and video sharing app originally launched on iOS in October 2010. The Android version was released in April 2012. You can take, edit, and publish visual content for your followers to interact with through likes, comments and shares. It was acquired by Facebook in 2012 for $19bn.

 

7. Spotify

This digital music streaming service gives you access to millions of songs, podcasts and videos from artists all over the world. Basic features are free with advertisements or automatic music videos, while additional features, such as offline listening and commercial-free listening, are offered via paid subscriptions.

 

8. Facebook

Nowadays, it’s hard to find someone who owns a smartphone without the Facebook app installed. This social networking site has made it super-easy easy to connect and share with family and friends online. Facebook was created in 2004 by Mark Zuckerberg while he was enrolled at Harvard University. By 2006, anyone over the age of 13 with an email address could join Facebook. Today, the app is the world's largest social network, with more than 2.7 billion users worldwide.

 

9. Whatsapp

Another app which is found on practically everyone’s phone, Whatsapp is a text and voice messaging app that was launched in 2009. It’s become incredibly popular since then, mainly thanks to its features and flexibility.

 

10. YouTube

YouTube says that its mission is to give everyone a voice and show them the world. This online video-sharing platform allows users to upload, view, rate, share, add to playlists, report, comment on videos, and subscribe to other users. Originally created in 2005, YouTube is now one of the most popular sites on the Web, with visitors watching around 6 billion hours of video every month.
