Wish to surprise your partner coder? Here are ten things tech geeks dream of receiving as presents

Not sure what to get for the tech lover in your life? Or are you a self-confessed geek who has no idea what to ask for? Here are some great suggestions drawing on the latest tech developments and designed to make your life significantly easier.

1. Noise-cancelling headphones

If you work in a busy office or your neighbours are really into techno, then noise-cancelling headphones are a great idea for your Christmas list. You can either sit there in silence or play your music of choice whilst not getting any interference from those around you. The perfect gift for those who are particular about their working environment.

2. A smartwatch

Are you even really a techie if you don’t have a smartwatch? If you somehow missed the boat, it is time to put it on your list for this year. Link up your phone, PC, emails, and social media accounts to your watch so you never miss an important bit of news, information, or communication ever again.

3. A drone

There is often no real need to own a drone, other than the fact that it is fun to do so. Just be sure that if you get one or are getting one for someone else that it is actually legal for them to do so and they don’t require a specific permit.

4. An adjustable standing desk

If you are spending a lot of time at your computer working, you might want to look into getting a standing desk. Sitting down all day can have a detrimental effect on your health including back and shoulder issues, headaches, and loss of motivation. While standing all day is not that good for you either, the idea is that you do a bit of both for maximum comfort, health, and productivity. Adjustable standing desks are a great way to do this, so add it to the list!

5. A new coffee maker

What coder or programmer doesn’t thrive on coffee? This means that anything coffee-related is a great gift idea. You can opt for an espresso maker, a french press, or something more traditional, but basically, anything that provides caffeine is sure to be a hit.

6. Robot vacuum cleaner

Noone likes doing housework, techie or not. The easiest solution is to get a robot to do it for you! While you might think that is lightyears away, actually there are a number of robot vacuum cleaners already on the market that will keep your floors nice and clean while you are at work, or working at home.

7. Light therapy lamp

Working long hours can often mean starting when it is dark, finishing when it is dark, and when deadlines are tight- not seeing daylight for weeks. Unfortunately, this can have a serious impact on mental and physical wellbeing. We need light to thrive, but in cases where it is not possible to catch up on UV exposure, light therapy lamps are a great solution.

8. Mechanical keyboard

Mechanical keyboards tend to be pricier than your average but converts say that they are well worth it. Using actual switches under the keys, it provides a more durable, tactile, and faster user experience for typers. Users also claim it allows them to type more accurately with fewer mistakes while making less work for fingers.

9. Computer glasses

As anyone who works on a computer will tell you, it can really take a toll on your eyes after a while. The best way to combat this is by using computer glasses. Special-purpose eyeglasses, they work by optimising your eyesight when users are looking at digital screens. They reduce glare, increase contrast, and slightly magnify what you are looking at which makes it much easier to look at a screen for a longer period of time.
