6 behavioural markers showing you that you need a break

Everyone needs a break now and again, but sometimes it is absolutely imperative that you do. There is no ‘right’ moment to take a break – we are always ‘too busy’ but it important to do so before you are completely burnt out and it is too late. Here are some pointers that you are ready to take a break right NOW.

1. You often make careless mistakes

If you are constantly sending emails to the wrong person or making one too many embarrassing typos, this may be a sign to step away from work for a bit and recharge before you make the ultimate ‘mistake’ of signing off ‘I love you’ to your boss.

2. You feel overwhelmed

If you find yourself crying or being upset or frustrated over small things, that’s another sign you need a break. Sometimes, just stepping away for a brisk walk round the block is enough. Or maybe a couple of days away from your emails. Or maybe you need a bit more than that. Mental health should be your number one priority.

3. You’re super tired all the time

Feeling tired after a day’s work is normal. Feeling tired every day for a month is not. If you are stressed, the likelihood is that you’re not getting enough sleep. Try to find some time to catch up on your sleep and take care of yourself more.

4. You just don’t want to go to work

When you wake up in the morning, it’s with a feeling of dread. You dread hearing your alarm clock. You literally have to drag yourself out of bed. This is certainly not a good sign and usually means that your ‘passion’ has gone. It’s time for you to step away and take some time for yourself.

5. You get physically sick

When we are under a lot of stress, worrying and not sleeping enough, our physical health starts to suffer. What makes it worse is that we tend to drag ourselves into work even when we are unwell. Stop doing that. Take some time off.

6. You constantly feel sad

Of course, people feel sad sometimes. However, if you feel sad all the time, it’s time for a break – physically and/or mental.
